The Federal Public Ministry of Paraná signed a leniency agreement this Monday (12/8) with Ecorodovias. The company controls the Ecovia and Ecocataratas concessionaires and has acknowledged paying bribes to obtain contractual modifications beneficial to the concessionaire since 2000. Under the agreement, the company must pay R$400 million for the illicit acts until the end of the concessions that end in 2021. The task force defined that the amount constitutes an anticipation of amounts owed by the company, not preventing the actions of other public bodies. Of the total, R$30 million will be paid as a fine, provided for in the Administrative Improbity Law. The remaining R$370 million will be paid to repair damages, of which R$220 million must be used to reduce the fare at all toll plazas operated by Ecorodovias by 30.
The reduction will be implemented for the user within 30 days from the approval of the agreement and will be valid for the time necessary for the total amount of the tariff reduction to reach the expected value. The other R$150 million will be allocated to carrying out works on highways. Approval will be the responsibility of the 1st Federal Court of Curitiba and the MPF's Anti-Corruption Chamber.
